There aren’t many things more enjoyable than sitting in a cafe drinking coffee. It’s an even more pleasurable experience if the cafe is somewhere exotic, like Cape Town in South Africa.

Cape Town is home to some of the best coffee spots in the whole of Africa, making it a haven for coffee connoisseurs. Whether you’re looking for a traditional espresso, a latte made with ethically-sourced beans, or a unique and innovative concoction, there’s a cafe here to fit your needs.

Cape Town Food Tour

One of the best ways to sample the best coffee, along with fantastic food, wine and craft beers, is to take an organised food tour. Here are some that we used, and come highly recommended:

Full-day Vineland’s Tour with Wine Tasting & Food

We can especially recommend the Essential Cape Town Food Tour. Our guide Justin was informative and enthusiastic about the city and its food. The tour starts at Origin Coffee Roasting so perfect for coffee lovers.

Where to Find The Best Coffee In Cape Town

I recently had the chance to visit several of Cape Town’s most renowned coffee houses, and let me tell you—they are amazing – on a par with anywhere in the world! Here are my top picks for the best coffee spots in the city.

Origin Coffee Roasting

Barista cooling artisan coffee at Origin Coffee Roasting cafe in Cape Town South AfricaThis family-run business serves some of the freshest and most delicious coffee in Cape Town. The espresso has a rich flavour, and the baristas’ intricate designs in the lattes make each drink look almost too good to drink. The menu can be a little overwhelming, with so much choice, but the baristas are always willing to explain and recommend.

Each month there are a range of guest coffees available. The tasting rack is also worth a go if you really love coffee and want to experience the best beans Africa, and the world, has to offer.

Delicious food is also available throughout the day.  This was a go-to destination for a coffee and pastry after treading the streets of Bo-kap, the V&A or after hiking up to Lion’s Rock.

Origin also offer Barista experiences and was the meeting place for an excellent Cape Town Culinary Food Tour we took.

Truth Coffee Roasting

A cafe with achingly shabby-chic decor by day, this wonderful venue comes to life a night as a bar and brasserie.

Truth specialise in providing coffee tasting experiences and barista courses. Though if you just want coffee, the cafe is also a wonderful place to sit and soak up the wonderful smells of freshly roasted coffee.

Supreme Roasting

Not only is this cafe a delight to look at, with its vibrant walls and vintage décor, but the coffee is truly remarkable. Their selection of single-origin espresso beans provides unique and interesting flavor combinations.

Malay Quarter Coffee

Located in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, Malay Quarter Coffee combines its traditional roots with contemporary vibes. The flavor profile of the coffee here is unlike any other you’ll find in Cape Town.

Coffee Spout

A combination of style and flavor, this cafe prides itself on offering some of the best-tasting coffee in the city. Plus, the local artwork displayed around the cafe makes it the perfect spot for an Instagrammable coffee experience.

In Summary

There are sp many coffee shops in Cape Town that I was unable to visit them all. Of one’s I did visit there wasn’t one I wouldn’t recommend. It’s safe to say, if you’re looking for a great coffee experience in Cape Town, you won’t be disappointed.
