On a peaceful peninsula on the Southern edge of the busy resort of Puerto Del Carmen, with its array of shops, bars and restaurants sits the decadent Hotel Fariones. I stayed here for a week in May 2022 and can highly recommend it as either a base to explore this stunning volcanic island, or just as a place to kick-back and rewind. Puerto Del Carmen is a sprawling, though surprisingly attractive, popular resort on the East coast of the volcanic Canary Island of Lanzarote. It’s an easy, 15 minute drive from the airport and a taxi will cost around €20 to €25. There is a bus for the budget traveller which costs €6 and makes the journey along the resort promenade every half hour at peak times.
The hotel itself is set on a small peninsula at the southern end of the resort. It’s located on a quiet side street, and looks out directly over the ocean. The hotel is flanked by sandy beaches, ensuring it is both quiet and peaceful. To the North are the long, main resort beaches of Playa Blanca and Playa Grande. To the South is the tiny, pretty bay of Playa Babi and beyond that the equally small, and pretty, but more popular Playa Chica. There’s secure access from the hotel directly to Playa Babi, and a footpath that leads to Playa Blanca and Playa Chica. In essence you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to excellent beaches.
In close proximity to the hotel, a short five minute walk, is the old harbour of Puerto Del Carmen with a number of restaurants and bars as well as water sports kiosks (including a Scuba Diving school). In the other direction, you are five minutes walk from the main promenade which has numerous bars and restaurants catering for all tests, from Full English breakfasts to fine, Canadian dining. If you have a hire car, the hotel has its own car park and there are plenty of street parking bays around if that is full (or too expensive).
In short, Hotel Fariones is in a perfect location for a varied holiday on Lanzarote. Quiet and secluded, yet within walking distance of all the amenties Puerto Del Carmen has to offer.
Arriving at Hotel Fariones
After a short, private transfer from the airport (courtesy of Jet2Holidays, as Hotel Fariones is one of their “Indulgent Escapes” offerings) we sipped complementary Cava whilst a friendly, polite concierge checked us into our rooms. 
As our information was taken we took time to admire the fantastic, African themed decoration of the huge lobby area.
We stayed in a standard Double room with a Sea View. The room was large, with a wonderful bathroom complete with walk-in rain shower and twin basins. The bed was large and comfortable with a view of the sea outside the floor to ceiling glass doors that opened onto a small balcony. The hotel also has suites of varying levels of luxury available for an even more decadent holiday experience. The room came with luxury toiletries which were refreshed every day by the maids. There is a coffee machine, a safe big enough to store a laptop, fridge with complementary water, soft drinks and snacks. The room comes with a hair-drier and an ironing board and iron are available on request. Each room also comes with soft, fluffy dressing gowns and slippers.
Around The Hotel's Grounds
As mentioned, the hotel is located on a small peninsula surrounded by the sea and beaches. Its grounds are planted with lush tropical flowers, trees and bushes with a great deal of thought having gone into the design of the gardens. Illuminated footpaths guide you around and through the verdant jungle landscaping, with each part of the grounds having a distinct, equally evocative theme. There are lots of places to sit and sip a cocktail under palm trees that sway mesmerisingly in the sea breeze. Laze on a sun bed looking out over the ocean as parakeets chatter and hop from tree to tree in the canopy above. There’s a large swimming pool, which is where complementary pool and beach towels can be found. There’s a pool bar and another bar by the sun beds closest to the beach. To the south of the grounds, there was some building work ongoing as the new Spa and Health Club was being constructed (we heard very little noise from the building site whilst we were there).
Food and Drink
The hotel has three restaurants. The main restaurant, La Bella Luca, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as a buffet style. This isn’t your average hotel buffet though, with a huge selection of excellent dishes on offer. There’s something to suit everyone here, including traditional Canadian dishes, Oriental food as well as the staples should you be missing home comforts (e.g. chips, burgers etc.).
The hotel also has two a la carte restaurants. The Erizo serves local Macronesic food and the Kaori offers fine dining Asian cuisine. There’s also a snack bar by the pool and bar meals can be ordered from anywhere around the grounds and in the bar area, at any time.
We wanted to try some of the island’s other restaurants, so paid for Bed and Breakfast at the hotel, though we ate dinner twice in the buffet restaurant and found it to be excellent. Half- and Full-Board options are available if you plan on residing in the hotel for a truly relaxing vacation.
In Summary
On one evening my wife and I returned to our room to discover a tray of delicious cakes and a bottle of Cava along with a sweet note wishing my wife a happy birthday. We hadn’t told the staff it was her birthday, the cleaning maids had noticed the two birthday cards she opened that morning and took it on themselves to do something special. It’s these simple gestures that make a stay special.
I would recommend Hotel Fariones if you’re looking for somewhere a little up-market to stay on Lanzarote. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well-equipped, the hotel grounds are peaceful and stunningly beautiful. The staff are attentive and helpful, and the food and drinks (their Sangria is exceptional) are delicious. It’s a five star hotel (though I’d rate it 4.5 stars) so expect a hefty bill, but there are some offers and bargains to be had at certain times. Getting There & Bookings
We booked a package via Jet2Holidays, but it’s worth checking the popular hotel booking sites such as Booking.com for deals, especially if you want more flexibility, maybe a twin centre break to make the most of touring the island.
Most airlines, including the budget airlines, fly direct to Lanzarote from the UK’s airports year round. The airport is a 15 minute taxi ride from the hotel.

This is a quick video, mainly intended for my handful of YouTube subscribers. Hotel walkarounds are popular on YouTube so I thought I’d create one for the hotel I stayed at on the beautiful, volcanic island of Lanzarote.
The Hotel Fariones is out of the way on the edge of the popular and lively Puerto del Carmen resort. It’s situated amongst lush tropical gardens and flanked by the ocean and two golden sandy beaches.
The hotel itself is branded as a 5* (though more like a high 4*) and is definitely worth it if you want that little extra bit of luxury.

My wife and I booked the Hotel Fariones via the Jet2Holidays website. The hotel makes a great base for exploring the island and is away from the hustle and bustle of the main promenade but within easy reach of a multitude of restaurants, bars, shops and car/bike rentals.
